For the last four years, PHD Mechanical has been responsible for the planned maintenance services and commercial gas catering at one of London’s most prestigious townhouse hotels, the 5-star St James’s Hotel and Club, and its Michelin-starred restaurant, Seven Park Place by William Drabble.
At a quality hotel like St James’s Hotel and Club, which prides itself on its reputation for excellence, it is essential that the services run smoothly to guarantee the comfort of its guests. The PHD Mechanical team has carried out reliable, responsive maintenance to ensure optimum performance of the mechanical services, air conditioning and drainage at this historical hotel. In addition, the company has been responsible for maintaining the excellent operating standards of its famous, award-winning kitchen with annual gas safety certification and refurbishment of the gas appliances and fire extinguisher system.The challenge
Ensuring compliance to building regulations is a key component of the full maintenance service provided by PHD Mechanical. With recent amendments to safety regulations, it is the role of PHD Mechanical to ensure that all mechanical equipment in the property adheres to current legislation. When temperatures climbed as high as 38⁰C in the small boiler room at St James’s Hotel and Club, gas standards regulations required immediate action to increase ventilation. The challenge for PHD Mechanical was to find a solution that would meet gas regulations whilst adhering to local planning legislation.
The solution
In a simple but efficient solution that overcame both the space constraints within the small boiler room and the restricted access due to its basement location, the PHD Mechanical team took the decision to reroute the kitchen extract and use that path for ventilation extract for the boiler room. This has proved a highly effective solution to meeting the required regulation whilst the work, which was carried out professionally and seamlessly, resulted in no disruption to the hotel or its guests.
